Hot Discussion: (2008/Christian)-FIREPROOF is critic-proof, #4 opening is miraculous in limited run!!
Tag: General DiscussionMy wife and I went to see "Fireproof" this afternoon with some friends in the Dallas - Fort Worth area, and the theater was quite full - perhaps 90-95% full.
All of us loved this movie, and we heard many positive comments from other theater goers as well (the applause at the end might be an indication of its reception as well). Partly this was the excellent acting on Kirk Cameron's part (I felt physical pain during his confrontation with his wife early in the movie), and memorable performances by many of the other actors. The action scenes were very tense, too.
But the most interesting part of the movie was watching his efforts to win back the trust of his wife, who hated him for the man he had been and the abuse she had endured in the first seven years of their marraige. Psychologically, this was presented in a very credible and compelling way; you find yourself rooting for him as he bashes the "parasites" that destroyed his wife's love with his baseball bat, painfully endures his wife's determined rejection despite his efforts at the "love dare", and confronts the scumbag doctor who is trying to lead her away from his efforts at reconciliation.
Non-Christians probably will have trouble understanding the faith of the characters, as Christians are rarely protrayed with any accuracy in popular media. However, Fireproof is very enjoyable on its own merits. As word of mouth gets around, I would expect a long and profitable run - and a lot of positive changes in relationships, too.

Chihuahua "bites" Eagle!!!
I agree with mommy, there's nothing kooky about moral fiber. I think a lot more Hollywood marriages would survive if the spouses pitched in for the love scenes.
Especially for PG project like this where "professional" adultery is not required.
Heck, they could even do "real" sex instead of the faux variety meant to steam up the cineplexes for adult-leaning audiences.
Just a guess, but I'll bet most Hollywood marriages fail because of real infidelity, not fake, on-screen depictions of infidelity.
I gotta admit, I'll never see this movie. But I have to give propers for a brilliant business move here - $500,000 budget grossing $12.5 million in two weeks? That's smart capitalism. Whether we agree or disagree with the Christian ethos, one thing's for sure: their movies and bands make serious money.
Chihuahua's "chomp" [Rec]-remake!
not to mention his wife is smoking hott!
