Being I'm New Here, Let's Have; Resident Evil 4 Vs. Silent Hill 4: better horror?
Tag: General Video Game Discussion-p.s.I know this is a hella long of an entry, but being inexperienced at this as much as I am, I'm giddy to write my heart out, but sorry for the inconvinience...Please!! Discuss this, for the new guy!!!
Being a huge fan of Resident Evil, but having a great deal of respect for the Silent Hill series, I refuse to compare or attempt to find one "better" than the other. Any real fan of the genre will buy both anyhow.
And check into paragraphs, they don't hurt to read.
We need paragraphs!

And check into paragraphs, they don't hurt to read. Disgruntled and misinterpreting the whole point of what I'm trying to say, but certainly is this no reason to try to get saucy with me about how much, and how, I write. *shrug*. This isn't my big qualm though, It is just to simply clearify completely that I'm not looking for what people will think is going to be the "better" game, because even I think Resident Evil 4 will probably be "better" put together and easier to just enjoy. Where I feel Resident Evil has a real chance of dropping the ball is in the department of how scary it can be if it tries to resemble itself much more to something like a bloodbath FPS pandemonium partaking. Maybe something very much more akin to a painkiller similarity development. This game may not be scary at all, what with changing its roots up so riproariously. And so, I'm just saying, Silent Hill is going to be better horror, accomplishing what should always be the first priority of Survival Horror, to frighten you into actually being scared to see what is next around that bin. I will concur that my disagreements will be utterly ridiculous, and I'm just a big jackass, if the genre they instead stick on Resident Evil is "Action Adventure," but as it isn't yet to my recollection, I want to say that Resident Evil 4 is getting hyped way too much to be "the" scare game of the decade when it may fail this more than anything. I've watched the 8 minute-ish trailer of Silent Hill 4 at 4:30 A.M. in the morning today; I don't have to worry about it's scare factor solidarity.
wow no offense but you are a really crap writer, like you are trying to sound more intelligent/mature than you are. I'm guessing you aren't older than......... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. 16
ANYWAY...
yes, Silent Hill wins because I'm not so into gore and "scares" as much as interesting/demented/chillings imagery and concepts. Harder to come up with that stuff!

btw i apologize if english is, in fact, not your first language, in which case -- you SHOULD try to keep it simple
I doubt Resident Evil 4 won't scare me.

It isn't even about writing proper - One huge paragraph hurts the eyes.

Did you arrive at his age by analyzing his writing or reading in Watashi's video game character thread that he was 16?
If the former, good job , you should find some way to profit off of your skill.

n.
A union of interests, purposes, or sympathies among members of a group; fellowship of responsibilities and interests: "A downtrodden class...will never be able to make an effective protests until it achieves solidarity" (H.G. Wells)
As in:
"I don't have to worry about its scare factor [purposes, interests, responsiblities, as in if they still will fufill them in making an uber-scary game].
Structurally, it looks like the game still has all of its fundimentals, it is just trying to upgrade everything to the next step.
I think this is the better choice to give us a "horror-filled experience"
And by the way, I would much rather write a reply that may be a bit incoherent and convoluted instead of boring, straight-forward, or gramatically incorrect, most of the time; it's an obsession of mine that may just be impossible to erradicate
I don't want:
"I dn't see hoe this wn't be scary. OMG, I looks yucky filthy lol lovin it!"
I would like to know, Ingrin, if you did read those statistics about myself in that "What character you Resemble" thread, if you also saw the part about how I know I'm probably a naive, ignorant dolt still at the age of 16. Everybody has their flaws.
But all I've ever been told about my written assignments in school, ever since 1st grade, is it's a breath of fresh air, well-written, not a piece of garbage.

Oh, and I love both the RE and SH franchises, but RE doesn't scare me at all. The Silent Hill series has incredible psychological horror that surpasses most movies I've seen.
Honestly the 2 can not be compared they are in the same genre but are 2 totally different games and gameplay types. and try to scare you in differnt ways.
RE4 looks like it'll be a hell of a lot more fun to play, but SH4 may be more creepy.
Silent Hill is running out of goodwill from me. I love the atmosphere and scare tatics they use, but the gameplay just looks like more of the same. Eventually, they'll need to go beyond tweaking the living Tool video atmosphere and work on the gameplay. It worked in the past, but it's starting to get old.
One change I'd like to see is a better combat system. Aiming has always seemed imprecise and stiff. I can't believe that nobody has borrowed Eternal Darkness' method of combat which works brilliantly with range and melee weapons. I know Silent Hill isn't a combat-heavy game, but they throw enough confrontation your way that fighting shouldn't be a chore or something to all-out avoid.
And maybe open up the exploration aspect of the games. Even though you've got an entire town to play in, it still feels more linear than a Resident Evil game. Going off the beaten path should be rewarded with side quests and alternate storylines rather than a measly health pack and some bullets tucked behind an alley.
While I'll still pick up SH4 the day it hits shelves, I'm more interested in RE4 because they've finally acknowledged it's gotten stale. The changes they've made seem totally fresh and yet still rooted in the spirit of the series. That's the kind of stuff that gets me excited about a sequel.
I'm not passing early judgement here or saying one series is better than the other, but wholly on level of interest, RE4 has more going for it right now. If the folks at Konami actually release something beyond an assault of disturbing images, I may change my mind.

Resident Evil 4 has some amazing graphics. The series has really suffered a lot recently and was much worse than the Silent Hill series.
The new fighting engine is supposedly amazing. I am really looking forward too it.
Kuon for ps2 looks really good as well.
In my opinion the Resident Evil games were getting old. I thought RE4 would just be the same old game. But that was until I read its preview in EGM. With all of its new features and enemies, it looks like it may be the best of the series.
But the Silent Hill series is definitely creepier. Its always fun to unravel the mysteries of these games.
I'd just get both because they both look really fun.

Don't know the details, but it is revamped.
Resident Evil series is far better.

The last SH was so heavy on fighting that it really amplified how archaic their system was. It was such a pain in the crack trying to hit things that were short or low to the ground.
I think you have some genuinely good points in your posts, but as everyone said, paragraphs wouldn't hurt. Just don't go all Buster Keaton on us.
Anyway, back to the topic: Silent Hill 4 will likely be better horror, but Resident Evil 4 will probably be the better game. And if you're into Silent Hill a lot, you should check out the movie Jacob's Ladder, which inspired it (and the Tools and NIN nails videos).

I am actually looking forward to both. Resident Evil has a lot of strong points, mostly in (much hated) gameplay mechanics and semi-campy(but effective) horror. Silent Hill i like for it's classic fear inducing techniques and parts of the script. As a game, SH isn't as good As Resi, but it's definitely scarier in the traditional sense of the word. It reminds me of the old 60's horrorflicks mixed with some of today's slickness and gorefactor.
But despite this, i feel RE 4 is going to be the better game of the two. Horror doesn't always have to be scary and, in a videogame, the scarefactor MUST be balanced out with actual gameplay. Now that was a major problem with at least the last two SH adventures.
I'd say every RE after the original and the Gamecube remake are more or less horror themed thrillers resembling Aliens. Pretty straightforward jump out of your seat type content. The original REs just had a different effect than the sequels IMO, especially REmake which I found really taut and effective.
I consider SH to be more horrific as it deals with nightmares, cultism, sadism, skewed reality, emphasis on bleak atmosphere, unexplained and abhorrant phenomena, inhuman evil from the depths of hell. Gets under the skin with it's implied notions and bleakness. Not really a jump inducer in my eyes though.

I get a gold star for guessing. I just remember being a pretencious writer at 16 too!

I know what it MEANS, dickwad, you just didn't use it properly. Your posts are only convuluted because they ARE grammatically incorrect. Using "big words" and sentence structures you clearly can't grasp aren't the way to make your writing more interesting
