Control (2007) Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007)

Tag: General Discussion

So I got around to watching Control. I had mixed feelings on this. It was shot well, acted well but the whole film was detached. I think Corbijn wanted to give the audience a feeling of Ian Curtis' isolation and detachment from others but it left the film stiff. I couln't identify with any of these people. Unlike 24 Hour Party People which was so alive that you felt a genuine part of the whole scene. The guy who played Tony Wilson in Control was bland. The guy who played Ian was very good. As a band biopic it didn't work. Too much time was concentrated on Ian and his home life and his mistress. Boring stuff. Overall a C.

I also watched the first Futurama straight to DVD movie. While it was fun, it didn't have the total manic energy of the show. Lots of characters made cameos and Fry even travels back to that fated evening in 2000 but the jokes weren't fresh and the material felt dated. Still, Bender was fun as always and the whole Back To The Future scenario was interesting. A B-.
