That sucks! if its any consolation, It did better at IGN (55/100 I think)
Yeah it does suck. I expected Driv3r to get some good ratings but most are complaining about the on-foot combat. But I will still but it no matter what.
This doesn't surprise me, and I don't really care either. *shrug*
EGM mag had a preview of it this issue and they had some things to say about it. They said it was alright. But overall still had some problems. I find this funny that they had so long to work on it and nobody is liking it.

I find it hilarious that every self-proclaimed "Grand Theft Auto killer" has managed to suck horrendously. The Getaway had tons of people saying (before the release), "Look at those graphics, Vice City and GTAIII ain't got **** on that!"...let's face it, The Getaway was a piece of crap, and I knew it in my bones that Driv3r was going to be just as crappy. Grand Theft Auto truly is the king of open-ended driving/shooting games. Any of you fools rushing out to the stores to grab Driv3r as soon as it hits the shelves should do yourselves a HUGE favour...save your money for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. If you really can't get rid of your hard-on for Driv3r and really feel the need to play it...be smart, don't be a retard...rent RENT RENT!!!
I mean, I'm not trying to disrespect people who make the decision to buy this game...but there are so many amazing titles headed to the X-Box and PS2 in the next six months, its mind blowing. Spider-man 2 is going to be out at the end of the month (the game), and if it's at least as good as the first one (and it really does look promising), it'll be well worth the money spent. Buy that instead. And if you do end up purchasing Driv3r without giving it serious thought, don't blame anyone but yourself. Don't buy hype...buy a good game and listen to what the experts say.
Well, lets think about this for a second. Driver 1 sucked, Drived 2 sucked, it seems like a logical progression for #3 to suck.

I agree with you 100%. I was stoked to buy this game, but after reading the reviews, I will be renting this instead. Given how damn expensive games are and how many crappy games I've ended picking up, I've become more selective about what I buy; based on reviews and rentals. IMHO, I would rather rent a game a few times to finish it if it has limited replay value. Games like Rainbow Six 3, Halo, and GTA are great because I can play them over and over again with friends or solo. Seriously, why would I want to BUY a game that I can finish with a few rentals (say about $10 or $15) vs buying it (about $70-80 Cndn); especially if it turns out to be a turkey?

- gmanicus Ok this game has a ton of replay value. Anyone that disagrees never played driver 1 & 2 . Sure the foot combat sucks but lets remember 80% of the missions are in car hense the name of the game DRIVER. EGM gave it 8.5,7.5,6.5 and in my opinion it think the the foot combat sucks in GTA but people liked that game.
If you rent this game and go in with a open mind, you will see what I mean about the game. As I said earler I still play Driver 2 why becuase it is such a great game and has a ton of replay value. there is stuff like Free ride,Driviing games, etc..
also here is a link to the 1up.com review of the game. http://www.1up.com/article2/0,2053,1615467,00.asp
they gave it.

A classic example of a game greater than the sum of its parts.

The AI is suppose to be pretty bad, too. And the graphics are suppose to be nothing special. This game sounds like it was way overhyped. But then again I wasn't really looking forward to it. So, I'm not losing any sleep over it. I'm not sure I'll even rent this game.

That sucks! We if you that sucked, then I saw a review on UK teletext that just give this sound game just a piddly 3/10
3/10???
Yes, I completely disagree with it too. OK, the graphics can be a bit blocky at times, but most of the time, they are just so sublime.

I played the first Driver and it had no replay value at all. If almost every mission is the same, how can it possibly have replay value? It was average fun, but nothing I have any urge to play again.
Also, according to EGM they STILL haven't corrected that "You've lost him!" problem when you can still see the car you're chasing.
This game sucks. That is all.

I realize that there is really no reason to do the missions again but I am talking about The Driving games
I was initially set to buy this game when it came out. Then I read the poor reviews and changed my mind. The next day, I rented the game and was pleasantly surprised. It's a pretty good game. The graphics are pretty awesome, the cut scenes rock, and it does offer open-ended game play like GTA (repeat replay value). I haven't gotten too far, but so far, my main complaint would have to be that it is a little too difficult; bordering on unfair. Still, I think the open-ended play of this game makes it one worth buying if you want to just run around shooting people/cars and smashing into people/cars with cars.
Bottom line: it's a pretty good game, not nearly as bad as most people say it is.

No contest whatsoever. Even without even playing Driv3r, I'm still sure of that. (Sorry, but in terms of free ride mode there's no way it can't be compared to GTA.) My most fun with Driver with friends was messing with the crazy physics and going flying landing on the water and on top of buildings and stuff. Weee! Driv3r may be a purchase once it hits the < $20 range.
