Hot Discussion: R.I.P. Crunchyroll.

Tag: Anime Discussion Forum

Okay, Crunchyroll isn't exactly dead, but today is the day that Crunchyroll officially goes 100% "legit", meaning that those of us who don't use BitTorrent or other filesharing services will have to look to lower-profile sites for our fix of new fansubs.

What alternatives to Crunchyroll do people here use?

I find AnimeSeason.com is functional, even if it's really just a portal to watch fansubbed anime hosted on Veoh and Megavideo.

ZOMGanime.com is pretty much the same thing as AnimeSeason.com.

I still go to Crunchyroll to watch Pretty Cure, but that's about it.

What's wrong with legit simulcasts? Yes, it's on a small scale at the moment, but this is a very positive step forward for the industry.

Nothing's wrong with legit simulcasts, as long as I can watch them for free.

I only pay for physical media.

The sorts of shows I like (slice-of-life mo¨¦ comedies) don't seem to be getting legitimate streaming releases anyway.

I don't hate Crunchyroll, it's just, since they got rid of all the fansubbed shows, there's nothing there I'm interested in watching besides Pretty Cure, which they still let us watch for free, at least for the time being.

The main selling point of the "new" Crunchyroll seems to be Naruto, which I'm about 20 years too old to give a rat's *** about, really.

I totally forgot about Crunchyroll. I haven't watched a show on there since they took off Major and Bleach/Naruto. Ef them in the A.

I use portal sites and although they are slow, I get my fix and feel connected to the fan community.

I liked Crunchyroll because of their recommendations and other fan-friendly features but too many shows that I depend on, they took down. So portals it is!

Here's another thing that didn't occur to me to mention here the other day but I brought up in Vienna's "Anime Apocalypse" update thread in GD in regards to the 1991 shoujo comedy series Goldfish Warning: it's not that difficult to continue to get your fix of fansubs of new or recent shows from the portal sites. The bigger shame is that Crunchyroll had all kinds of fansubs of classic shows and obscure OVA's from the 1980's and 1990's. Goldfish Warning! is nowhere to be found on the portals or on a direct search of Veoh.

Oh well, at least Veoh has Miracle Girls, my favourite semi-obscure 1990's shoujo romance series, about two identical twin girls with various psychic abilities.

I'll actually be starting to use Crunchy roll unfortunately. Dattebayo has stopped fansubbing of the Shippuuden series and Crunchy roll states that they will have the episode subbed one hour after it airs. It would be better if they gave you a file instead of streaming though.

I use these sites in place of crunchyroll now:

anime6.org
rawranime.com
otakucenter.com

All of them are reliable, but I think rawr might be my official hang out now...

Since there's now a legit place to get subed naruto in a timely fashion, I have no problem at all supporting it. 7 bucks a month? Hell I've spent more than that on coffee in a day.

www.animea.net ftw

also,

megavideo.com and veoh.com
