I still don't get why they want to get off the island.

1. Micheal.
2. Kate
3. Sawyer
4. Sayid
5. Ana-Lucia
6. Eko (mainly because his past implies so much, even if we haven't seen it)
7. Jin
8. Locke (his "sacrifice" of Boone puts him up there)
9. Charlie
10. Shannon
11. Jack (stalker boy episode and season 2 finale pushes him up a little)
12. The rest, for the most part. I have a feeling Libby might be higher if we ever see more of her past.

Yeah. This alone pulls him up to 4 on my list. I used to really like him, and then he (more or less) killed Boone. Outside of Micheal's crimes, his "sacrifice" of Boone is the worst crime any crash survivor has committed against another crash survivor.
So far the only person on the island who really understands how responsible Locke is for Boone's death (other than maybe Desmond) is Jack. If the other survivors knew, I think they'd be more wary of him.
But the audience knows what he's done, and he's still a popular character. I find that...surprising.
I know I'm spoiling stuff for myself, and I do want to catch up on this series that I've missed all of after about midway through the first season, but how is it that three of you have Michael at #1 while one has him placed at #15?

Well, I can't speak for The Shotcaller, but Michael does something pretty crazy at the end of season 2. If you have any intention of catching up with the series, don't spoil this turn of events for yourself.
1. Michael
2. Sawyer

15. Hurley
I'm not going to bother including the Others in this list because we don't have a real basis for judging their morality at this point in time. The top 4 could really go in any order. Michael's actions have been shown as the most selfish and further those actions resulted in risking the life of his friends whereas the other 3 have actually outright murdered people (for differing reasons).

I'll avoid this thread for now, then. It caught my eye though how three (now four) people see Michael as being the most reprehensible while one has the complete opposite reaction to whatever it is he did.
In fact, I'm going to get the first two seasons and watch them today and tomorrow so I can get caught up.

I more or less agree with your list, though I'd put Eko up higher. Any reason for putting Claire, Boone, and Hurley on separate lines?
It's hard to compare the murders Sawyer, Ana Lucia, and Kate committed, but Kate's reasons are the murkiest. Was it vengence or just plain hatred? She said she hated that he was a part of her, but she didn't know that when she killed him...

Select the black box below with your cursor to view the spoiler text Boone tried to murder Locke with the knife after he hallucinated Shannon being eaten by the monster. Although he may have had a good reason for exacting revenge, he was exacting revenge nonetheless. I can't see Hurley doing the same. As for Claire, I seem to remember her demanding that Ethan be killed, which again, I can't see someone like Hurley doing. The difference between the two was that Boone never did kill Locke, and as far as he knew his sister did die. Claire called for the death of Ethan and Charlie ended up killing him. Plus, Boone has done some selfless acts like trying to save his half-sister multiple times from abusive relationships, whereas Claire really hasn't shown herself to be selfless in any real way (she could have gave her baby a better life but instead she selfishly decided to keep it).
EDIT: I'll spoiler tag my rationale so that BDB can have a cleaner slate.
You can tell you guys don't have kids - Select the black box below with your cursor to view the spoiler text Michael is a father first. You can see by his face when he commits his first two crimes how hard it was for him but he needed to get it done to save his son. Selling out his friends was atrocious, yes, but he knew they as a group could not overpower them and if he did not, he would never see his son again. The love of a parent truly overtakes any sense of rationality and therefore Michael was not in his right mind. Kate meanwhile has been responsible for numerous deaths and murdered several people all for selfish reasons. Eko was a sadist before finding religion and Sawyer has spent his life ruining others without even taking into account his murder of the wrong man. 1. Kate
2. Eko
3. Sawyer
4. Ana Lucia
5. Sayid
6. Michael
7. Sun
8. Charlie
9. Jin
10. Locke

Rationally, I would say NO person's life should ever be traded for another. But as a parent who had no other way? Whatever it took and I'd deal with God when the time came.

Select the black box below with your cursor to view the spoiler text Good call on Claire and Boone. I remembered Shannon asking Sayid to kill for her, but I forgot about Claire. And I think Hurley's quite definitely proved he's not the type of guy to seek vengence. When Libby died, Michael tried to bully him into joining Walt's rescue party. Even though Hurley joined, he continued to argue that it's main objective was to bring Walt back. In fact, the worst thing Hurley's done so far is hoard food.
1. Michael. What a b@stard.
2. Ana Lucia - cold blooded killer, and a cop too.
3. Kate
4. Sayid
5. Sawyer
6. Eko
7. Sun
The rest haven't done anything too bad as far as I can remember.
I'm doing this list based on what they did BEFORE the crash.
1. Mr. Eko
2. Sawyer
3. Kate
4. Ana Lucia
5. Jin
6. Charlie
7. Sun
8. Sayid
9. Michael
10. Shannon
11. Locke
12. Jack
13. Hurley
14. Walt
Why do most of you have Ana-Lucia over Kate? Both of the people they killed were revenge kills. However, Kate did some screwed up stuff after that too.
This is hard to judge mostly due to the Island/pre-Island split. Michael would rank higher than Eko just going by his actions on the Island, but if you take everything in its totality, Eko is a hell of a lot more "morally ambiguous" - he murdered god knows how many people for entirely selfish reasons. Michael at least thought he was doing what had to be done, and he was completely guilt striken over it. So overall:
1. Eko (by far)
2. Michael (for the single worst act to date on the Island)
3. Sawyer (murder and making a living out of destroying peoples lives)
4. Sayid (Is all too able to torture)
5. Kate (What she did originally might be somewhat understandable, but her actions after aren't)
6. Locke (Too willing to sacrifice others for his goals)
7. Jin (Clearly did some terrrible things in his pre-Island life)
8. Ana-Lucia (A murdering cop, not a good combination)
9. Libby (Just a hunch, but her past looks extremely shady)
10. Charlie (One murder, which in of itself was slightly justifiable, but still...)
11. Sun (Willing to lie even if it destroys others lives, not too trustworthy)
12. Shannon (Porked her brother)
12. Boone (Porked his sister)
13. Desmond (Killed someone, but it was an accident)
14. Claire (Nothing really comes to mind, she is kind of harsh to Charlie and seems a bit selfish)
15. Jack (He really did a number on his dad)
16. Hurley (Steals food, a minor crime, he also kicked *** on Sawyer, which is good)
17. Walt (Seems like a good kid, a little lippy with Michael at times)
I'm doing my top Seven (based on island/pre-island):
1. Kate- Got her old flame killed by cops, killed her father, stole a dead woman's passport, almost killed a poor farmer (although she did rescue him and asked that he recieve the reward money). When the show debuted, I thought the writers were gearing her up to be the next Nina Myers, instead she was turned into a poor man's Sydney Bristow. Oh well.
2. Sawyer - The Long Con proved he's a master manipulator.
3. Charlie
4. Eko
5. Sun
6. Shannon
7. Michael
The others I felt were either regretful for what they did (Sayid's torture), were not 100 percent at fault for their actions ( Ana Lucia was tricked into killing you know who), are too innocent (Claire, Hurley) or we dont know enough about them ( Libby, Rose, The Others).

Thinking about it, Kate's crime seems much worse than Ana-Lucia's. She seems to have had less of a reason to kill than Ana Lucia, but then she seems more regretful too. I put them on the same line, but this little exercise is turning out to be quite hard.

7. Jin
8. Shannon
9. Ana Lucia
10. Charlie
11. Desmond
12. Libby and Claire
13. Hurley
14. Jack and Mr. Eko
15. Boone
16. Walt Sorry, didn't mean to skip over you! I'm curious about your placement of Ana Lucia and Mr. Eko--why so low?
Totally forgot the Michael thing. I was basically thinking about the characters' pasts before the island when I made my list. I think I may have to do some revising.
