How come no one ever told me?

Ogre Battle: Curse of the Black Queen has been released on Nintendo's cash printing machine, the virtual console. Now, I don't want to discuss the merits of this service, but this game was one that I have been waiting for. It's nearly impossible to find a real copy of this game in the wild and this is finally an opportunity for a lot of people to get their hands on one of the best series' that we ever forgot. For the love of god, jump on this if you have any interest in one of the best stratagy games ever created. If the sales are good, maybe we can see the sequel, which is easily one of my favorite games of all time, released on the same service.

Nice, time to buy it!

Ogre Battle is a pretty cool and unique little game, but it's so inaccessible and vague in presenting the true objectives to the player (one could easily play through the entire game finding every hidden item/character and still get the worst ending) that it's hard to recommend it to just anyone.

Also, I liked Ogre Battle 64 significantly more.

Definitely a gem from the past. It's a shame Ogre Battle never really caught on or got big, at least from what I can tell on this side of the world.

I'm definitely going to be peer pressuring my Wii owning friends to get this.

Im currently playing this, as this is one of the more anticipated titles for me on the VC. Still fun after all this time.

However, my one problem is that once you "get it", the game is very easy. Plus, with some luck, you can get god units at impossibly early stages.

For example, I got a Princess in Pogrom Forest (the single most broken character in the game), a Dragoneer in Avalon, and now having currently beaten Diaspola I picked up a Lich and a Vampyre (Lich being the second most broken character in the game). I am maybe 25% through the game at this point and I already have the best units you can get.

Also, I just got a Merchant ticket, so now all I need is a couple million Goth and I can make EVERYONE GODLIKE!!!

Now all I need is Romance of the Three Kingdoms on NES, Earthbound on SNES, and Ogre Battle 64 on N64 to complete my VC collection. (I own the cartridge for Ogre Battle 64, but my N64 is broken. )

Ahhh...

this is one that I still have the cartridge for, so I can just fire up the ol' SNES if I want to play it.

Hmmmm, now that I think about it....this is one game that I never finished.

Time to fire up the ol' SNES.
